Ovoid pots were an elegant storage solution in African tribal life. Typically, these pots are coiled by female ceramicists to hold food or personal items. The exteriors carefully incised patterns impart subtle decoration and were intended to provide a sure grip. The amphora bottoms require most of these pots from the Sudan to sit on a metal stand or be propped with stones as garden ornamentation.
